The Bulls started their 1999 regular season with a commanding 24-0 victory over the Rainiers on Sunday at home. Under the direction of head coach Jason Burton, the Bulls dominated on both sides of the ball en route to a shutout win.

The scoring drive came early in the first quarter when James Sotelo powered in a 4-yard touchdown run, giving the Bulls a 6-0 lead with just under two minutes left in the quarter. Kicker Michael Thomas promptly added the point after to extend the lead to 7-0.

In the second quarter, Larry Johnson added to the lead with an 8-yard touchdown run. Thomas again converted the extra point, pushing the Bulls to a 14-0 advantage. Later in the quarter, Thomas split the uprights with a 34-yard field goal, giving the Bulls a 17-0 lead heading into halftime.

Defensively, the Bulls were relentless. They registered five sacks on Rainiers quarterback Garry Griggs, who was also intercepted four times by the Bulls' secondary. Notably, linebacker Glenn Pusey recorded two sacks. Don Morel from the Rainiers managed one sack and forced a fumble but was unable to generate sustained pressure all day.

The Bulls' rushing attack was efficient, accumulating 212 yards on 34 carries. James Sotelo led the ground game with 96 yards rushing and added 17 yards receiving, including one touchdown catch. Tight end David Marcus contributed 77 receiving yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Larry Johnson contributed a receiving touchdown in addition to his rushing yards.

Quarterback Garry Griggs completed 24 of 39 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown but was hampered by four interceptions. The Rainiers’ offensive struggles were evident as they managed only 54 total passing yards and 28 rushing yards, failing to put any points on the board.

Punting was a frequent feature for the Rainiers as their offense was stifled by the Bulls' defense, resulting in multiple fourth downs and a long list of punts throughout the game.

The Bulls committed two penalties for 10 yards, while the Rainiers were flagged four times for 25 yards.

With this win, the Bulls improve to 1-0 on the season and take the early lead in the division standings. The Rainiers fall to 0-1 and are at the bottom of the division. Neither team had any third-down conversions or red-zone touchdowns recorded in the game.

The Bulls will look to build on this strong start as they continue their 1999 campaign next week. The Rainiers will need to address their offensive woes if they want to bounce back in the upcoming games.
