The Big Horns secured a 10-5 victory over the Pirates on October 11 at home, moving their record to 3-3 in the regular season. The low-scoring contest was dominated by defensive stands and pivotal special teams plays.

The Pirates won the coin toss and elected to receive, but offensive momentum early in the game was limited for both teams. The Big Horns struck first in the first quarter when kicker Richard Pressley converted a 28-yard field goal with 2:46 left, putting Denver ahead 3-0.

Both teams' punters played key roles in controlling field position, with Big Horns punter Rolando Wilson consistently pinning the Pirates deep, including punts of 50 and 47 yards. Similarly, Pirates punter Saul Campbell provided stability with multiple long punts, including a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter.

Scoring remained sparse until the third quarter. At 2:58, quarterback Thomas Dixon found running back Harry Stuhldreher on a 2-yard touchdown pass, the only touchdown of the game. Richard Pressley’s extra point attempt was good, increasing the Big Horns lead to 10-0.

The Pirates responded early in the fourth quarter with a safety, resulting from a tackle on Big Horns’ Harry Stuhldreher in the backfield for a loss of two yards. This reduced the deficit to 10-2. A field goal attempt by Pirates kicker Roy Smith from 59 yards was no good in the second quarter, limiting the Pirates’ scoring opportunities.

Defensively, both squads applied pressure effectively. Big Horns defensive end Robert Erickson and Pirates defensive end Wesley Strong each recorded three sacks, underscoring the intensity in the trenches.

Notably, Thomas Dixon contributed 98 passing yards and accounted for the lone touchdown pass, completing 13 of 29 attempts without throwing an interception. The Big Horns’ rushing attack was effective, gaining 182 yards on 34 carries, led by Stuhldreher’s 52 yards and one touchdown.

The defense for the Big Horns intercepted a pass and combined for three sacks. The Pirates managed only one interception and also recorded three sacks.

The Big Horns committed three penalties for 15 yards, while the Pirates had four penalties for 31 yards. Neither team managed to convert any third downs during the game.

With the victory, the Big Horns remain third in their division with a 1-2 record within, while the Pirates fall to 3-3 and sit second with a 1-1 division record. Both teams are now even at 3-3 overall.

Big Horns head coach Keith Huskey guided the team to this hard-fought victory in a game where both offenses struggled to find separation, but Denver’s timely scoring and stout defense made the difference.

Owner Kosmic28 commented on the game, saying, "Our defense set the tone today and Pressley’s field goal was the key early score. This win shows our resilience in tight games and gives us momentum moving forward."
