Give draft class realistic athletic ability

Can we give players realistic athletic ability? I'm a little tired of seeing seemingly regular Joe's off the street applying to the MFN draft. Far too often do I see DB's with under 20 speed. They should all at the very least have 50 speed, rather than be the same speed as OL. Same idea with positions that require a lot of strength, positions like OL and DL shouldn't have players with 10 strength. All I ask for is for players to have minimum athletic ratings based off of their weight/position.

I'm a little curious now how slow I can make one of these 10 speed DB's in the draft, if I convert them to 300LB+ OL.

Here's the thing on the speed, if all players are generated with 50-100 speed, then why should the scale begin at 50? The problem might be that 0 speed is too slow, but the idea is that the 0-100 range is within the scale of a pro athlete, i.e. the average Joe would be slower than an MFN player's 0 speed.

That said, if "0" speed is making players too slow then that is a different issue altogether.

Me too, I cringe when I see RB's, WR's and DB's with speed in the teens. Or for that matter offensive and defensive linemen with strength in the teens...
What team in the NFL would draft such a player? What team in MFN would draft such a player?
Speed is essential to being a good athlete and every athlete in the NFL has speed if they play in a speed position like the ones mentioned above.
And every athlete in the NFL who plays at a strength position has strength.

The thing is, any defensive player at sub 50 speed is just unplayable.

I'm not sure how you scale speed, but I imagine a 100 speed would be the fastest player at the NFL combine and 0 would be the slowest player at the NFL combine. I'm looking at the latest combine 40 yard dash times, and I see fastest is 4.3 and the slowest is 5.8. That is a difference of 1.5 seconds between the fastest and slowest player. So the difference between 100 and 99 would be a difference of 0.015 seconds. The slowest DB at the combine clocked in at 4.7. That is 0.4 seconds slower than the fastest player. So going by a scale of 0.015 seconds per rating, the slowest DB would be 0.4/0.015 = 26.66 rating points slower than max speed. So the slowest DB should have approximately 70-75 speed. I'm not sure how you factor in acceleration though but whatever combination of speed and acceleration should equal to a speed of 70-75.

If we were to look at the DB's with 10 speed, that guy would have 4.3 + (90*0.015) = 5.65 seconds, which is what an offensive lineman would run. Are we drafting 9th grade DB's here??!

I could also be wrong with all these calculations but that's how I see it.

I have to agree. It does seem somewhat silly seeing a WR with a rating of 17 speed. There should be some kind of threshold per position imo.

There's one more issue with speed: if we convert a fast DT to CB, he'll become faster even! (by the ratio we've seen published here recently).
Possibly breaking the 100 rating

At the same time, a slow CB moved to LB will be slower and slower.

Thus: the (potentially) faster players in the game are the heaviest (linemen), and the slowest are the CBs.

I mean that's pretty much how it is right now. The fastest DL in my league is an 84 speed at 270lbs. If you convert him to a 190lb DB, I would expect his speed to be around the mid 90s. It looks like the speed/weight scale is working correctly. All the fastest players are less than 200lbs and the near 300lb players max out around 80 speed.

I haven't done any of the math for this, but just thinking about it, I would think these would be the min/max speeds for each position.

QB: 0-100 (Peyton Manning to Michael Vick)
HB: 70-100
FB: 50-80
WR: 70-100
TE: 50-80
OL: 0-70
LB: 50-80
DL: 10-80
DB: 70-100
K: 0-70

The only thing that would end this years old debate would be a combine . A live event ran sometime before FA. Possibly at the end of season stage...where all or 90% of potential draftees run the gambit of the combine .

Actual events in real (fake) space and time.........40, 3cone, 20 yard shuttle , bench, wonderlick and probably more . Scores and measures of all attempts . Just like real life , heck add a pro day if you like.

Then and only then .....when I see, with my own eyes will I ever believe anyone in this game is "fast enough " to play pro football .

As most of my time here was spent debunking a theory on this very subject . That athletically mfn functions on a scale more similar to high school competition . Yes, the scale has shrunk a bit lately but by no means is it to pro scale .

This is one reason why we get high such high scores or end up with such lacks in parity of league talent . This is the reason DL is converted to db. We will get those numbers it takes to succeed .

Remember that weight is the sole regulator of all this....which is not at all how it works IRL as well. Body mass index is a much more successful method of regulation . No, Barkley , no fornette, no moss, no deion, no bo and the last goes on and on.
