Re: Explanation?

At this point, as I mentioned to almalric, we are playing a Pop Warner play selection and use, roster speed exploits, with NFL level players, would be interesting to see how that would fly in RL. I really hope this situation can be improved. The salary cap simulation is way ahead of the play selection and performance. No motion, limited formations, consistent plays that are an advantage vs the rest, no long passing game, coaches have no influence other than HC playbook. My son showed me a version of EA College Football the other day, played online in coaching only mode. Like night and day to MFN. Would love to see this game improve, but hope is dwindling.

I've been playing this game for 8 years. Lately, its been off & on. The game is great and enjoyable in the areas of statistics, roster management, salary cap managing, drafts, development of players (boom/bust aspect), free agency, and the pace of seasons and careers of players.

The glaring weak link is the game play. I get bored watching the games. Every game feels like a 1978 NFL game. No offensive excitement, really no way to create a difference making run game (it appears a dream team of OL performs worse than OL's with players rating in the 77-82 range. Defenses are too suffocating, and only need to use about 3 or 4 different play calls the entire game. Passing is a joke. Medium passing is meh, and long passing is simply broken. The "first team to score 20 points wins" concept is beyond tiring.

Any time the offense does something that looks to be exciting - the receiver drops the pass. Every single game has a recipe: the first drive or two teams can move the ball and run effectively, then is slows down until the start of the 3rd quarter then maybe the first drive goes well after the half. Then mid-way through the 3rd quarter, the winning team's offense goes into a shell of 3 yards or less runs. The losing team all of the sudden in mid 3rd and early 4th starts completing passes at a 77+% clip after only completing 50% the previous 2 1/2 quarters. Then there's always the crappy ai team that beats great teams despite being out yardaged 400 to 215 (120 of which came in the 4th quarter.)

It's been about a year of subscription based playing, and I was happy to play and pay and watch the game get better. The most wanted changes have not occurred. A lot of the changes such as display and how it looks is an improvement - but I don't think anyone was clamoring for that.

The absolute most frustrating part is that the version 6 years ago was much, much more enjoyable. Then they nerfed QBs with fatigue. Then they nerfed the passing game with drops and broken medium/long passing.

I'm about out of interest in the game as it is, and losing desire to hang with it for improvements.
