I've only been on the MFN platform for 3.5 years so I cannot speak to the history or the evolution of the game over a long period of time. However, as to the current game and the ability to pass the ball, I would say that it is possible to have a productive passing attack with the right personnel and play calling.
I participate in only three leagues, a small sample size, but here are my teams passing yards in their most recently completed seasons: (1) 5,266 yards, (2) 5,262 yards, and (3) 4,536 yards. This would be considered high end passing yardage in the NFL where teams have thrown for over 5,000 yards only 15 times in the history of the league. Having said that, we would all like to see long passing fixed in MFN so that the yards per pass attempt would increase, and so that total passing attempts needed to get to 5,000+ yards would decrease, making it more aligned with the NFL.
At any rate, I agree with CoconutsMigrate that there are many improvements that need to be made to MFN but mildly and respectfully disagree on the passing issue from my own anecdotal experience. Just my $.02 worth.
